Officials from Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL) announced the return of the system’s popular annual Summer @ Your Library (S@YL) program aimed at preventing seasonal learning loss. This year’s initiative, with the theme of Unearth a Story, encourages daily reading and attendance at educational library events between June 1 and August 31 to win prizes.  

 

This year’s Summer Quest for kids makes reading fun and offers a chance to win a variety of prizes, including a mini projector and a Mighty Dinosaurs Lego® Creator set. Teens can participate in a special Choose Your Own Adventure program, with one lucky winner nabbing a Nintendo Switch Mario Kart bundle, while the adult Wild Card Bingo contest features a grand prize of four Southwest Airlines passes. Library customers may sign up for the Summer @Your Library challenges at any AACPL branch, where they’ll receive a game board to track their progress, or register and track their progress through Beanstack. 

 

To keep participants engaged, libraries across AACPL will host fun, entertaining and educational events and activities all summer long, including: 

 

Summer @ Your Library Kickoffs 

Enjoy activities and crafts to welcome the season and register for S@YL. Events will be held at Broadneck, Busch Annapolis, Deale, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Edgewater, Glen Burnie, Maryland City at Russett and Odenton libraries. 

 

Summer @ Your Library Grand Finales!  

Celebrate the end of Summer @ Your Library at Brooklyn Park, Crofton, Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Mountain Road, Severn and Severna Park libraries. 

 

Performers include:  

A Dino-Sized Magical Circus! 

Former Ringling Brothers performer, Circus Greg, adds a dinosaur to his show! Learn the W.O.R.K. problem-solving method while helping dino-size this wild circus adventure. Events will be held at Broadneck, Crofton, Deale, Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Glen Burnie, Linthicum, Maryland City at Russett, Severn and Severna Park libraries. 

 

A Visit to Kofi's Village 

Enjoy an imaginary visit to an African Village where participants experience the sights and sounds of percussive musical instruments, as well as the royal clothing, storytelling and lots of drumming, singing and dancing fun! Events will be held at Brooklyn Park, Busch Annapolis, Crofton, Deale, Edgewater, Glen Burnie, Maryland City at Russett, Odenton and Riviera Beach libraries. 

Archaeology is Everywhere 

Join a professional archaeologist to learn how we uncover clues about the human past. See artifacts, tools and explore archaeology careers. Events will be held at Edgewater, Mountain Road, Severn and Severna Park libraries. 

Books! The Magic is Real! 

Magician Joe Romano returns with his show that features tricks and books! Events will be held at Broadneck, Brooklyn Park, Deale and Odenton libraries. 

 

Captain Curiosity: The Carbon Conundrum 

Don’t miss a theatrical, funny show about Earth's past and nature's science! Puppets, audience participation and play keep them laughing and having a great time. Events will be held at Edgewater, Linthicum, Maryland City at Russett, Odenton and Riviera Beach libraries. 

Charm City Trivia for Adults 

Test your skills at trivia hosted by the Best of Baltimore's pick, Charm City Entertainment. Events will be Linthicum, Odenton and Riviera Beach libraries. 

 

How To Be a Friendly Pirate 

Join pirate musician Sage O'Silver (Sage Snider) and science teacher Juarez M'Gold (Kevin Pereira) for a fun, musical pirate adventure with puppets, songs, comedy and dancing while learning along the way. Events will be held at Broadneck, Brooklyn Park, Busch Annapolis, Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Glen Burnie, Linthicum, Mountain Road and Odenton libraries. 

 

I Dig American Sign Language! 

Let's dig deep and learn basic American Sign Language for dinosaurs, diggers and the things we love through stories, songs and more. Events will be held at Busch Annapolis, Crofton, Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Edgewater, Glen Burnie, Mountain Road, Riviera Beach and Severna Park libraries. 

 

Jurassic World Training Academy 

Join a hands-on animal training academy with Eco Adventures to meet live reptile ambassadors, practice fun training cues and discover how teamwork and positive reinforcement help experts work with modern-day dinosaurs. Events will be held at Broadneck, Brooklyn Park,  Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Glen Burnie and Severn libraries. 

 

Journey to the Center of the Earth 

Unearth the story of our planet with the Science Guys of Baltimore through interactive elements that explore atmosphere, changes over time and even eruptions! Events will be held at Busch Annapolis, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Edgewater, Maryland City at Russett, Riviera Beach, Severn and Severna Park libraries. 

 

Mr. Lilo Live! 

Songs by Lilo Gonzales spread a message of cultural unity for a better world. Events will be held at Busch Annapolis, Deale, Eastport-Annapolis Neck, Edgewater, Mountain Road, Maryland City at Russett, Riviera Beach and Severna Park libraries. 

 

Rock and Rhyme 

Join Mr. Jon for a family concert with songs, rhymes, books and puppets. Mr. Jon and George the Monkey will have everyone laughing and dancing. Events will be held at Broadneck, Brooklyn Park, Crofton, Deale, Linthicum and Severn libraries. 

 

Stories through Music 

Every song tells a story. Learn the meanings behind classical and popular music favorites through a fun and interactive concert for all ages from Annapolis Opera. Events will be held at Crofton, Discoveries: the Library at the Mall, Eastport-Annapolis Neck and Mountain Road libraries.
