Community College of Baltimore County is opening its campus pools to the public this summer, offering free community swim hours at its Catonsville, Dundalk…

Community College of Baltimore County is opening its campus pools to the public this summer, offering free community swim hours at its Catonsville, Dundalk and Essex campuses from June 22 through Aug. 20.

The initiative is designed to give Baltimore County residents more access to safe, welcoming spaces to swim, stay active and cool off during the summer months. The expanded program follows a successful pilot at CCBC Essex last summer and now includes all three campus pools.

“We are pleased to offer this opportunity to our communities,” said CCBC President Sandra Kurtinitis. “Following a successful pilot at CCBC Essex last summer, we are expanding access to include our three campuses to better serve our neighbors and strengthen community connections.”

Free swim hours will be available on select days at each campus. CCBC Catonsville will offer community swim from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays. CCBC Dundalk will offer two swim periods on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and again from 4 to 6 p.m. CCBC Essex will offer access from 3 to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Although there is no cost to swim, participants must complete an online waiver and obtain a CCBC OneCard before entering the pool. Community members are encouraged to complete the waiver in advance so there is enough time for processing before their visit.

Pools will operate under established safety guidelines. Certified lifeguards will be on duty, and staff will be available to assist visitors with check-in and access requirements.

Baltimore County Executive Kathy Klausmeier praised CCBC for expanding access to the facilities, noting that free swim opportunities can support families, children and older adults during the summer.

“Access to safe places to stay active and cool off during the summer is important for our families and communities,” said Klausmeier. “By offering free access to these pools, CCBC is giving more children, families and seniors the opportunity to swim, exercise and spend time together close to home. I want to thank CCBC for making these facilities available and expanding access to resources that help keep our communities healthy, connected and active through the summer.”

The free pool access program reflects CCBC’s broader commitment to serving as a community resource beyond the classroom. By opening its facilities to residents, the college is helping provide more recreational options at a time when families are looking for affordable summer activities.
