 MASB ARTIST TRAVEL PRIZE

and

FREE FALL BALTIMORE

Create Baltimore announces that applications are open for the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore (MASB) Artist Travel Prize and Free Fall Baltimore grant opportunities.

“Travel can be inspiring on so many levels, so it’s a joy when nonprofits and private entities work together on collaborations such as the Artist Travel Prize to provide possibilities for artists who may not have the opportunity otherwise,” said Robyn Murphy, CEO of Create Baltimore. “In addition, for our Free Fall Baltimore program in October, we provide grants to individual artists and small arts organizations throughout Baltimore City to produce arts and cultural events that are free and open to the public.”

2026 MASB ARTIST TRAVEL PRIZE

Create Baltimore recently announced an open call for emerging artists who live or work in Baltimore City to apply for the annual Artist Travel Prize sponsored by the Municipal Art Society of Baltimore City (MASB). This prize is designed to fund travel that is critical to an artist's studio practice but may otherwise be financially out of their reach.

This year, the Artist Travel Prize amount has been increased to $8,000. Also new this year, the selected artist must present, within one year of return from their funded travel, a public-facing presentation to showcase new work created during the artist’s travel or because of their travel experience. The successful proposal selected by MASB Board of Directors must clearly articulate the artist’s reason for travel to a specific destination and how it is essential to their studio practice.

The deadline to apply for this year's prize: July 14, 2026 at 5:00pm.

FREE FALL BALTIMORE

Create Baltimore is proud to present the 2026 Free Fall Baltimore grant opportunity. Free Fall Baltimore is a citywide celebration held in conjunction with National Arts and Humanities Month each October. This year, Create Baltimore will provide $1,500 grants to individual artists and small arts organizations throughout Baltimore City to produce a variety of arts & cultural events that are free and open to the public.

Free Fall showcases the importance of accessible arts programming with free concerts, dance and theater performances, festivals, lectures, workshops, art exhibitions, special events, and more. This annual program is made possible by the generous funding support of the Maryland State Arts Council. Individual artists/creatives can apply for this grant if their event is free, open to the public, and located in a venue or public space in Baltimore City. Baltimore area nonprofit arts and cultural organizations with annual operating budgets under $500,000 are also eligible to apply for grant funds to produce a Free Fall event.

Arts and cultural organizations and anchor institutions with operating budgets over $500,000 are not eligible to apply for grant funding, however, Create Baltimore provides an opportunity for these entities to participate in Free Fall Baltimore by promoting their events and incorporating them into the Free Fall calendar.

Applications close: July 23, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.
