Securityplus Federal Credit Union Volunteers Inspire Students During Earth Day Initiative
Students at Bay Brook Elementary Middle School received a hands-on lesson in environmental responsibility this Earth Day thanks to a volunteer partnership between Securityplus Federal Credit Union and United Way of Central Maryland.
On April 22, 2026, Securityplus team members Elijah Thornton and Shelton Hunter spent the day engaging with students in first through seventh grade through interactive Earth Day activities focused on sustainability, environmental awareness, and community stewardship.
The initiative encouraged students to think about the role they can play in protecting the environment through everyday actions while creating a fun and educational experience inside the classroom. Thornton and Hunter helped guide discussions, support activities, and reinforce the importance of caring for the planet for future generations.
“This is what it looks like when purpose meets action,” said Obinna Ndukwe, Chief People and Impact Officer at Securityplus Federal Credit Union. “By investing our time and energy into our communities, we are not only supporting today’s students, we are helping shape a better future for all.”
The Earth Day volunteer effort also reflected the organization’s CARES values — Collaboration, Agility, Respect, Excellence, and Spirit — through direct community engagement and service.
“At Securityplus, we believe community impact starts with showing up,” Ndukwe added. “We are proud of Elijah and Shelton for representing our organization and helping inspire the next generation to care for the world around them.”
The partnership with United Way of Central Maryland is part of Securityplus Federal Credit Union’s broader commitment to supporting educational initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, and creating opportunities for employees to give back beyond the workplace.
