Voyages: Chapter 8 at the National Aquarium Blends Baltimore's Culinary Renaissance with Conservation
Baltimore's thriving culinary scene is making history inside one of the city's most iconic landmarks.
On Thursday, July 16, the National Aquarium will transform into an immersive culinary experience for Voyages: Chapter 8, an innovative event curated by Baltimore storyteller and content creator Chyno "The Baltimore Foodie." More than a dinner, the experience blends food, conservation, storytelling and community while celebrating the chefs, cultures and institutions helping shape Baltimore's culinary renaissance.

Voyages: Chapter 8 artist Tim "Chyno" Chin
For Chyno, the event is deeply personal.
"My love for the Aquarium runs deep," he shared. "I've loved the National Aquarium since I was a child. When I received this residency, it only made sense to bring together two things I care deeply about—Baltimore's culinary community and one of my favorite places in the city."
Celebrating Black Women Leading Baltimore's Food Scene
One of the evening's defining features is its lineup of accomplished Black women chefs whose talents reflect the depth and diversity of Baltimore's culinary landscape.
Rather than focusing solely on nationally recognized names, Chyno intentionally curated a lineup representing different stages of success and perspectives within Baltimore's food community.
"If we have moments to celebrate Black women, we should always celebrate Black women," he said. "I wanted to create a platform where these chefs could be celebrated in a space where we don't typically see Black women featured."

A Menu Inspired by Marine Life
Unlike a traditional tasting menu, every course in Voyages: Chapter 8 is inspired by the diets of the Aquarium's animals.
Guests will dine throughout the Aquarium while enjoying dishes crafted from many of the same sustainably sourced ingredients fed to the animals earlier that day. The concept highlights the interconnected relationship between people, waterways and wildlife while introducing guests to the Blue Food Movement, a global effort promoting sustainable seafood systems.
"The easiest way into people's hearts and minds is through their bellies," Chyno explained. "We want people to leave thinking differently about where their food comes from and how our choices impact the Chesapeake Bay."
Conservation Meets Community
Sustainability extends far beyond the menu.
Organizers expect Voyages: Chapter 8 to become the National Aquarium's first zero-waste culinary event, utilizing compostable serving materials and dedicated composting teams to minimize environmental impact.
"We can't ask people to think about sustainability if we aren't practicing it ourselves," Chyno said.
Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in an oyster restoration initiative by dedicating an oyster shell in memory of a loved one. The shells will later become part of a living oyster reef in the Chesapeake Bay.
"It's a way for people to become a permanent part of Maryland's waterways while honoring someone important to them," Chyno explained.
More than an unforgettable meal, Voyages: Chapter 8 is a testament to what makes Baltimore's culinary community so special. It celebrates the chefs pushing our city forward, the waterways that sustain us, and the power of food to bring people together. Whether you're a longtime foodie, a conservation advocate or simply looking for a unique night out, this immersive experience promises to showcase Baltimore in a way you've never seen before.
