About

Founded in 1910, the National Urban League is a historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization dedicated to economic empowerment in historically underserved communities. With a mission to enable African Americans and other marginalized groups to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights, NUL operates at the intersection of policy, community development, and systemic change.

What We Do

NUL drives impact through four key pillars:

  • Jobs – Workforce development, career readiness, and entrepreneurship
  • Justice – Advocacy for civil rights, voting access, and criminal justice reform
  • Education – Early childhood programs, college access, and digital literacy
  • Health – Community wellness, health equity, and access to care

These initiatives are delivered through direct services, policy advocacy, and strategic partnerships nationwide.

News & Events

NUL keeps stakeholders informed and engaged through:

  • Urban League Today – A digital hub for news, thought leadership, and impact stories
  • Annual Conference – A premier gathering of leaders in business, media, policy, and advocacy
  • Special Events – Town halls, webinars, and summits on racial equity, economic justice, and civic engagement

Recent highlights include the State of Black America report, national voter mobilization campaigns, and corporate equity roundtables.

Affiliate Movement

NUL’s strength lies in its network of 90+ Urban League affiliates across 36 states and the District of Columbia. These local organizations deliver direct services, advocate for policy change, and build community infrastructure. Affiliates are trusted anchors in their regions—offering job training, housing support, youth programs, and small business development.
